Jumbo
A story of a remarkable bond between one kitty and his two special women.
Jumbo and TammyTammy:

I went out to FieldHaven tonight to photograph the kitties. I have a habit of reading all of the white boards as soon as I walk in the trailer just to see what’s new, etc. My heart literally fluttered when I saw that my sweet boy Jumby has been adopted! I swallowed hard. I cried. I smiled.

I think at one time or another we all meet a cat (or two!) at FieldHaven that seems "extra special." For me, Jumby is that cat. I remember the first time I saw him in February. He had been at FieldHaven for a day and he was quarantined. I looked in his eyes and saw something so special, so wonderful, so loving. I remember walking out to Jen and telling her that I wanted him. There was no questioning anything. I wanted that boy. My heart broke when I saw that Jumby was FIV+. I knew that because of his condition, I couldn’t adopt him or give him the home that he deserved. I cried that night I found out he had FIV. I wanted him so bad…

So time went on. Every week, I would go out to Field Haven to do photos of the kitties and I would ALWAYS spend extra time with Jumby. I talked to him a lot….tried to explain why I couldn’t take him home….hoped that he somehow understood. When I looked in Jumby’s eyes…I felt like I could just see his very soul. Something about that cat is just so incredibly special. I think sometimes there is a certain essence in cats that have been rescued. Some cats truly KNOW that they have been saved. I think that Jumby is one of these cats. I think Jumby knows that FieldHaven saved him and all he wants to do in return is show his gratitude and his love. He is so grateful.

I will miss my sweet boy, but will rest better knowing he is sleeping in a warm, safe home. It was so weird tonight not to see him at Field Haven. I miss him already.

As for Julie who adopted Jumby….I have no words. You are truly an angel and I have no doubt that Jumby will give you his heart and his unconditional love. From the deepest core of my heart, I thank you.

I absolutely love the Field Haven family and I am so proud to be a part of this group.

Take Care everyone!
Tammie

Jumby at homeJulie:

Hi Tammy,

What a sweet message! Thank you so much for taking the time to send it.

Jumbo is a wonderful boy and we are very happy to have him with us. He's eating great and has made new friends. One of my other cats, Cesar, started grooming Jumby's face yesterday and really surprised him. He had a startled look like "What is this about?" but he didn't get upset.

He is in a rather large guest suite with Cesar and Diamond. I feed him separately so I can monitor if he is eating well...so far, so good. He hid under the bed for a day, and he still likes sleeping there since it is cool. His favorite spot is on a scratching post in the bathroom where he can watch turkeys and birds out the window. I'm attaching a couple of photos...he was rolling around and purring and almost fell off!

The photo of you with Jumby is fabulous! I'll give him a big hug from you every day since he is such a hugable guy.

We expect to have him with us for a very long time.

Thanks again,
Julie and Doug
