How You Can Help

The existing FieldHaven facility no longer meets County code and is going to be shut down.  This year, FieldHaven has started a campaign to raise funds for a new facility.  We receive no county funding, so please help our efforts by taking a moment each day to vote for FieldHaven - it's free!  See details below.

Petfinders is sponsoring a new contest and awarding $100,000 in grants to eligible Petfinder.com member rescue organizations.  The grand prize is a $20,000 grant and there are many more prizes ranging from $1,000 for weekly winners up to $5,000 for the runner-up.  There will be a winner in every state as well as other grants!

Simply click here, enter FieldHaven and CA in the search box, and vote - it's that easy!  No registration required.

The more friends you can rally to vote for FieldHaven Feline Rescue, the better our chances of winning. Get people involved! We're counting on you! Voting ends at midnight (PST) on July 26th, 2009 - You can vote once a day.

SNAP - Off To A Great Start

We are proud to announce that with the assistance of FieldHaven, a total of 55 cats (29 females) were spayed/ neutered through the FieldHaven Spay/Neuter Assistance Program in January 2009. Through several grants, FieldHaven is able to offer clients low and no cost spay/neuter services. Volunteers answer phone inquiries and provide coordination, limited transportation to and from the clinic, loan of humane traps, personal assistance with trapping ferals, and temporary housing for recovery.

How does this help our community?
This means 162 homeless kittens will NOT be born this year!

Did You Know
Cats Grieve?

Did you know that the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals conducted a Companion Animal Mourning Project in 1996? The study found that:

Approximately 46% of the cats ate less than usual after the death of another cat companion. In some extreme cases, they actually starved to death.

  • Approximately 70% of the cats meowed either more or less than normal.
  • Study respondents indicated that their surviving cats changed the quantity and location of their sleep.
  • More than half of the surviving pets became more affectionate and clingy with their caregivers.
  • Overall, the study revealed that 65% of the cats exhibited four or more behavioral changes after losing an animal companion.
  • So if you are thinking about adding another pet after suffering the loss of a companion, here are a few things to consider:
  • Wait until you and your surviving pets have adjusted to the loss. Adding a newcomer too soon can add stress to your surviving pet's emotional state and result in new behaviors.
  • Be patient and work through the changes. Your pets may miss their companion as much as you do.
