FieldHaven Receives Commendation
On September 22, FieldHaven Feline Rescue was presented with a commendation from the Placer County Board of Supervisors for providing assistance services during the recent 49 Fire in Auburn. Many pets were displaced, injured, or separated from their homes and owners. FieldHaven was one of many agencies, volunteer groups, citizens, and veterinary offices that offered their services to assist with locating pets, transportation, medical care and treatment, shelters and reunification services to secure the safety and well being of these animals under the leadership and coordination of Placer County Animal Control. We were very honored to receive this recognition.
Calamity Jane Fights For Her Life

There are good humans and bad humans. We know that. But what sort of evil human would shoot a cat in the leg in a public park? That question will most likely go unanswered, because we will probably never know who shot Calamity Jane in the leg in a park in Roseville, shattering her leg in three places.
Jane was minding her own business, as part of a feral colony that FieldHaven volunteer Lorraine Davis manages. Poor Jane. She hasn't been able to catch a break. Last year someone seemingly abandoned her in the park, and after Lorraine ensured she was spayed and healthy, she's just been living in the park with several other feral cats (even though she's not feral) minding her own business.
Fortunately, Jane came to Lorraine to let her know she was hurt. Many kitties would crawl into a hiding place to be by themselves. But Jane knew she needed help. Smart girl.
Lorraine whisked Jane to the vet and we found out the bad news. But even though Jane's leg might not be able to be saved at least she will be alive. And, we will make sure she never has to spend another night in a public park.
With deep gratitude we thank Dr. Powlaki and Dr. Engelsgjerd, as well as the rest of the staff at Banfield in Lincoln PetSmart, for donating most of the care and services to put Jane back together so she can find the home she deserves.

Adoption Challenged
We have growing situation at FieldHaven. There are several cats at FieldHaven who have been very difficult to adopt due to special needs, they are older, or they are shy. Many of these cats have been with us for over a year. We need to find these precious kitties homes to make room for more who need our help.
This plea for help is to ask you to look deep into your hearts and see if you have room for one more cat. Many of you have one or two cats, and fear bringing another into a happy mix. While that is absolutely a valid concern, we'd love you to give it a try. Perhaps a shy kitty who wants nothing more than a room, a window, good food, and gentle conversation could come around in the safety of your caring home.
If you think you may be able to open your heart and home to one of these adoption challenged kitties, please click here for their pictures and bios.

Did You Know?
The domestic cat is the only cat species able to hold its tail vertically while walking. All wild cats hold their tails horizontally or tucked between their legs while walking.
