Feeding Stray Cats? Take the Next Step.
If you've been feeding one or more stray cats and every year you find yourself feeding a few more, FieldHaven has the answer for you. FieldHaven is one of the few local shelters that has a Trap/Neuter/Vaccinate/Release (TNVR) program for stray and feral cats. Left unneutered, these cat populations will quickly grow to unmanageable numbers and the cats often become sick or injured due to fighting and other unwanted behavior.
Our TNVR program is designed to trap feral colonies, spay/neuter and vaccinate them using our Spay Neuter Assistance Program (SNAP), provide medical care if needed, and then release them back to their original location, where they have learned to survive.
Occasionally, feral cats cannot be released back to their original location due to life threatening conditions. See how these cats benefit from our Barn Cat Program by reading their stories on the right.
Thousands of feral cats are euthanized every year because they are considered to be "unadoptable". These programs not only save lives, but they benefit the community by producing manageable numbers of healthy cats and reducing unwanted behaviors such as fighting, howling, and spraying. It also reduces the amount of your tax dollars being spent unnecessarily destroying these cats at county shelters.
So if you've been feeding stray cats, whether it's 1 or 20, start the new year off right, take that next step, and contact FieldHaven for spay/neuter assistance today - the mating season starts soon!
3 Ways to Help FieldHaven in 2012
Through your generous support and donations, FieldHaven finally completed a major milestone in 2011 that was over 3 years in the making. We replaced our old condemned single-wide trailer with our new state-of-the-art shelter. We couldn't have done it without you.
Now that the new shelter is open, we look forward to "giving back" to the community by continuing our current services and expanding our outreach programs in 2012. Here's just a few ways you can help with your continued support this year:
- Spay Neuter Assistance Program (SNAP). Low/No Cost spay/neuter assistance for surgery, vaccinations, transportation to the clinic, loan of traps, advice and assistance with trapping, and temporary housing before and after surgery.
- Tenth Life Fund (TLC). In late 2010, a very generous donor provided the seed money for FieldHaven to start a fund to help cats with special needs. The Tenth Life Fund provides life-saving veterinary care for cats that would otherwise likely be euthanized.
- Sponsor Program. For as little as $10 a month, you can sponsor a special needs cat that has suffered abuse, neglect, or major health problem, making it nearly impossible to find them a forever home. These cats would be the first to be euthanized at many other shelters, but through this program, FieldHaven can give them a chance at life and the love they deserve. Each month you will receive a current photo and a letter about your sponsored cat's life at the shelter.
In this time of widespread economical need, FieldHaven recognizes that you have many options when looking for worthy organizations to support. This makes us all the more appreciative when you place your trust and faith in us with your continued support. We can't thank you enough!

Did You Know?
In the 1930's, Russian biologists discovered that Siamese cats carry albino genes that only work when their body temperature is above 98 degrees. If kittens are raised in a very warm environment, their points won't darken and they will stay a creamy white.
