*Community/Cat Assistance Team

We receive many, many requests to accept cats and kittens into FieldHaven from all types of situations; owner surrenders, rescued kitties, strays - you name it! Unfortunately, our space at the shelter and in foster homes is very limited so we cannot accommodate all of these requests. Most of the cats and kittens arriving at FieldHaven come from situations where they have been rescued by Lincoln residents and we sometimes are able to accept cats from other shelters. Even though we can't bring them all to FieldHaven we make an effort to assist every request. Many times this means that we won't be able to take in the cat you would like to bring to us but our CAT volunteers can help you with your situation.

Owner-Surrenders

If you own a cat that you would like to re-home you can have access to our resources and volunteers' expertise in finding homes for cats and kittens. You can place you cat on our Waiting List, list the cat on our website and even bring your kitty to our outreach adoption events to meet potential adopters. Our library has an excellent reference for how to place your cat; How to Find Homes for Pets offers you some tips and helpful advice. Our volunteers are also available for questions and counseling.

Gina Spadafori, Pet Columnist for the Sacramento Bee, wrote an excellent article on placing adult cats -- Finding a Home for Adult Cats is Worth the Work. You'll also find many more helpful animal-related information at Gina's website PetConnection (www.petconnection.com).

After reading the Cat Surrender Policy, complete the Surrender Application and Profile. After completing the form you can fax, mail or scan/email it back to us (contact information below) along with a biography describing the cat and a digital picture. The biography should describe the best possible home for the cat and be captivating and imaginative to grab people's attention. We will list your cat on our website with you as the contact person for anyone interested in adopting. In order to accept your cat on the Waiting List they must be spayed/neutered and up to date on vaccines. We also recommend a negative FeLV (Feline Leukemia) test.

As space becomes available at FieldHaven we will accept cats on the Waiting List into the shelter. For owner-surrenders there is a surrender fee for cats that are relinquished to FieldHaven. The surrender fee is $125 and up depending on your cat's age, health, etc. There is no surrender fee for listing your cat on our website or seeking advice from CAT volunteers but we sure do appreciate any donation you can give!

Rescued or Stray Cats

If you have rescued a cat or found a stray please one of our CAT volunteers or call 916-434-6022 and provide us with as much information as possible. The more information you provide will allow us to address your situation as quickly as possible. The following information is helpful:

  • Where are you/the cat located?
  • Describe how you encountered the cat(s)
  • Describe the cat(s) to the best of your knowledge (age, sex, condition of the cat(s), tame vs. feral, etc.)
  • Are the cats in a safe place?
  • Would you or someone you know be willing to foster the cat(s)?

Remember, we can't take in every cat we are requested to but we can help you address the situation to the best of our ability. If you are located outside the Lincoln area we will try to hook you up with a rescue in your area.

FieldHaven's CAT volunteers are here to help you!

Please us if you have any questions.
